MORGANTOWN,W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s basketball team moved up three spots to No. 16 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll released on Monday.
West Virginia (7-0) is off to its best start since opening the 2010-11 season with a 16-0 record. The Mountaineers picked up victories over North Carolina A&T, East Carolina and Auburn to win the Savannah Invitational last week in Savannah, Georgia. Auburn entered the AP Top 25 this week at No. 23. On Sunday, WVU toppled High Point 82-59 at the WVU Coliseum.
WVU earned 303 votes this week, 89 more than last week. Other Big 12 teams in the ranking include: No. 4 Baylor (725), No. 12 Oklahoma (445), No. 14 Texas (400). Oklahoma State (7) and Kansas State (6) are in the others receiving votes category.
The Mountaineers are No. 23 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. A new poll will be released on Tuesday.
No. 16/23 WVU continues its homestand with Morehead State on Wednesday, Nov. 30, in a 6:30 p.m. tipoff. All youth in eighth grade or lower, who wear a youth team jersey, will receive free admission.
