November 16, 2016 04:24 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After a three-week hiatus, the West Virginia University swimming and diving team heads to Greensboro, North Carolina, to compete at the NC State GAC Invitational from Nov.17-19 at Greensboro Aquatic Center.
NC State hosts nine teams at the three-day invite in championship format. Each day begins with prelims at 9:30 a.m. and commences with finals at 5:30 p.m.
Live results for swimming events will be available at GreensboroAquaticCenter.com, and live stats for diving can be found at divemeets.com. Fans can also follow @WVUSwimDive for additional updates and information.
"The teams had a good three weeks of training, and they are excited to get back to racing,” said coach Vic Riggs. “The NC State Invite will offer a very high level of competition, with several top-20 teams that will make competing well in prelims a priority to earn, what will be very difficult, spots in the finals. Team energy, staying focused on our race plans and improving on the small details is what I'm looking for this weekend. If we can accomplish those along with our strong fall, we should leave with some very fine swims for this time of year.”
Five women’s and three men’s teams competing are ranked in the latest top 25 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Rankings. The women’s teams are No. 6 NC State, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 15 Duke, No. 19 Notre Dame, No. 20 UNC – Chapel Hill, Marshall, Miami and West Virginia. Representing the men are No. 1 NC State, No. 19 Tennessee, No. 21 Notre Dame, UNC (receiving votes), Air Force and West Virginia.
The Mountaineers last competed in a quad meet at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, on Oct. 21-22. The WVU women were edged by William & Mary (176-164), Duke (281-71) and Virginia Tech (286-66). The men fell to William & Mary (223-123), Duke (288-64) and Virginia Tech (277-69).
Looking ahead after this weekend, West Virginia will have six weeks off before traveling to compete against Pitt on Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. ET.
