MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University sophomore Ginny Thrasher is set to compete at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final for Rifle/Pistol, at the Tiro a Segno Nazionale Shooting Range in Bologna, Italy.
Thrasher, a native of Springfield, Virginia, will shoot in the women’s 10m air rifle competition on Saturday, Oct. 8. The reigning NCAA smallbore and air rifle champion, she secured her invitation to the final with her Gold Medal performance in the women’s 10m air rifle at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games.
Ninety-nine athletes representing 34 countries will compete in 10 rifle and pistol shooting events. Qualifications were based on finishes at the multiple 2016 ISSF World Cup Stages, as well as results from the Rio Summer Games.
All finals will be broadcast live by ISSF TV and by the Olympic Channel.
Most recently, Thrasher helped the No. 2-ranked WVU rifle team (1-0) open its 2016-17 season with a 4714-4674 win over No. 5 Ohio State on Oct. 2, in Morgantown. A three-time All-American, she swept the individual wins, shooting 595 air rifle and a career-high 594 smallbore. Included in her smallbore performance were program-record marks of 200 prone and 199 standing.
