MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the first time in program history, the West Virginia University women’s soccer team sits at No. 1 in the NCAA Women’s Soccer RPI.
The Mountaineers also rank No. 1 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Top 25 Poll for the second straight week and the third time this season.
The fifth RPI release of the season, the Mountaineers (13-1-1, 5-0) sat at No. 2 the previous two weeks.
Stanford (12-1-1, 5-1 Pac-12) drops back to No. 2 in the NCAA RPI, while South Carolina (14-0-1, 8-0 SEC) sits at No. 3. Duke (11-2-2, 6-0-1 ACC) and BYU (12-2-1, 2-1-1 WCC) follow at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Georgetown (11-1-2, 3-0-2 Big East) ranks No. 6, USC (11-3, 5-1 Pac-12) is No. 7 and Auburn (11-4, 5-1 SEC) is No. 8. Oklahoma (11-4-1, 4-2) and UCLA (10-3-1, 4-1-1 Pac-12) round out the top 10.
WVU is 4-1-1 against teams ranked in the top 25 of this week’s NCAA RPI.
The Gamecocks and Blue Devils rank No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, in this week’s TDS.com Poll. USC sits at No. 4, and Stanford follows at No. 5.
BYU ranks No. 6, California (12-2-1, 5-0-1 Pac-12) is No. 7 and Virginia (10-3-2, 3-2-2 ACC) is No. 8. UCLA and Georgetown round out the top 10.
WVU is the lone Big 12 Conference team ranked in today’s poll. Oklahoma and Kansas each received votes.
The Mountaineers close their regular-season road slate with a swing through Texas this week. The squad opens at TCU on Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. ET. The Mountaineers will then kick at Texas on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m. ET. Sunday’s match will be broadcast locally on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh.
