MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Continuing on with conference play, the West Virginia volleyball team will host Big 12 foe TCU at the WVU Coliseum on Wednesday evening for a 6 p.m. match.
The Mountaineers will celebrate Way Back Wednesday at the match, with fans encouraged to wear their best throwback gear. Throwback contests, promotions and entertainment will run throughout the match. Tickets may be purchased in advance at WVUGAME.com.
The Mountaineers (5-8, 0-1) and the Horned Frogs (10-4, 0-2) meet for the eighth time on Wednesday. The series first started in 2009 with TCU taking a 3-0 win at a neutral site and became a part of league play when WVU joined the Big 12 in 2012. The Horned Frogs hold a 5-2 lead in the series, though WVU took a 3-2 win in the last meeting in Morgantown.

The Horned Frogs arrive in Morgantown with a 10-4 overall record and 0-2 mark in Big 12 action. Ashley Smith leads the offense with 2.87 kills per set, hitting for a .271 clip. She is one of four TCU players to average more than 2.00 kills per set. Kaylee Smith and Alexia Heist split time at setter, averaging 5.15 and 5.50 assists per set, respectively. Regan McGuire leads the blocking effort with 1.65 blocks per set, while Sutton Sunstrom leads the floor defense with 3.98 digs per set.
TCU Director of Volleyball Jill Kramer spent five seasons as the head coach at West Virginia, guiding WVU to a 66-83 mark. Former Horned Frog Mia Swanegan transferred to WVU this summer and has become an integral part of the rotation for the Mountaineers. Swanegan is averaging 1.66 kills per set and 0.62 blocks per set, appearing in 47 sets for WVU. Former West Virginia setter Lamprini Konstantinidou transferred to TCU but will sit out the season due to NCAA transfer rules.
The Horned Frogs traveled to Morgantown on October 11, 2014 for an epic showdown between the two teams. The Mountaineers took a 5-set win from the Horned Frogs - just their second ever over TCU. Setter Brittany Sample set a new career-best by assisting on 60 of WVU’s 79 kills, while Caleah Wells tied her then-career high of 13 kills. West Virginia hit .310 with 9.0 blocks in the victory.
The Mountaineers opened their conference slate on Friday, Sept. 25, taking a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Texas at the WVU Coliseum. Morgan Montgomery had a team-high 12 kills in the match, marking the 10th time this season she has finished in double figures. Brittany Sample had her third double-double of the season, recording 23 assists and a team-best 10 digs against the Longhorns.
