MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team is ranked No. 10 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Preseason Top 25 Poll.
The Mountaineers, ranked No. 12 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Preseason Poll, also were ranked No. 10 in the 2014 TDS preseason poll. WVU finished the year ranked No. 15.
WVU is the highest-ranked Big 12 Conference team in today’s poll. Texas Tech checks in at No. 13.
Reigning NCAA champion Florida State ranks No. 1, with Virginia following at No. 2 and Stanford at No. 3. Penn State ranks No. 4, North Carolina ranks No. 5 and Florida is No. 6. UCLA (No. 7), Notre Dame (No. 8) and Texas A&M (No. 9) also rank ahead of the Mountaineers. Virginia Tech, WVU’s second opponent of the season, ranks No. 11.
The Mountaineers open their 2015 slate at the Hoosier Classic this weekend, at Indiana’s Armstrong Stadium, in Bloomington, Indiana. WVU kicks off against SIUE on Friday, Aug. 21, at 4:30 p.m., and will face the Hokies on Sunday, Aug. 23, at noon.
