Hey Mountaineer fans! This is Olivia.
Our second day in Barcelona, we went to La Sagrada Familia. It’s a church that was designed by Gaudi. We got to walk around and see the beautiful church that is still being built to this day. It’s scheduled to be completed in about 10 years.
We played our second game against Selecció Catalana in Sant Julià de Vilatorta Catalonia, Spain. We won and played a lot better than the first game.
On Tuesday, the team toured more of Barcelona. We saw another Gaudi creation in the Park Guell and glimpses of the Gothic Quarter. It was really cool because we’ve got to see a lot of new different things. We also got to hear many people talk in different languages. I took Spanish in high school, but I still wish I knew more so I could’ve engaged in conversations with people there. Some people didn’t understand us, but we would use hand signals to communicate.
The next day we went to the Olympic Port beach and it was absolutely beautiful! It looks like it does in pictures. We shopped and tried some new food. Some of the girls went to one restaurant. They ordered fish that was deep fried with eyes and everything. That was an experience!
We played our last game in Barcelona and we won again over Selecció Catalana. In Spain, they take basketball very seriously. When we beat them on Monday, we were told by our coaches that the team was going to come out and play harder. They did. They came back from a 20-point deficit and made it a really good game. But we held on and won to improve to 3-0!
Today, we took a train to Madrid that last almost two hours. It’s kind of weird since it is going about 150 miles per hour, but it’s more comfortable than being on an airplane.
Spain was really awesome. I enjoyed London more than I did Spain because they speak the same language. It’s easier to talk to people and understand what they are saying. It was a good experience to live in someone else’s world for a few days and see how they do things.
It’s really awesome to wear the West Virginia University uniform because I was born and raised in Morgantown. It has been a really awesome experience so far and I look forward for more fun adventures ahead!
Up Next: West Virginia (3-0) plays CREF Hola Madrid on Thursday at 8 p.m. CET/2 p.m. ET to close out the European tour. The team returns to Morgantown on Saturday evening.
