July 23, 2015 03:31 PM | Rifle
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University graduate Maren Prediger has been selected as a conference honoree for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
The Petersaurach, Germany, native is the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) nominee. She is the first WVU student-athlete selected as a conference nominee since Petra Zublasing earned one of five Division I independent school nominations in 2013.
A record 147 NCAA female student-athletes have been named 2015 Woman of the Year honorees by conferences and independent schools.
The Woman of the Year selection committee will next narrow the field down to the top 10 honorees from each of the three division. These top 30 honorees will be announced in early September. The selection committee will then choose and announce the nine finalists (three from each division) at the end of September. Of those nine finalists, the committee will vote to determine the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year.
The top 30 will be honored and the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named at the annual ceremony in Indianapolis on Oct. 18.
Prediger, a three-year member of the WVU rifle team, won three NCAA titles with the Mountaineers. The 2015 NCAA air rifle champion, she is a five-time All-American and a six-time All-GARC honoree.
Prediger earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry with a 3.937 grade point average (GPA) and is currently pursuing a doctorate in chemistry. One of 45 students to earn the WVU Outstanding Senior honor, she has earned several academic awards over the last few months, including two postgraduate scholarships – the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and the Big 12 Conference’s Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship – and Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Second Team honors. A three-time College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Academic Team and All-Big 12 At-Large Team honoree, Prediger also is a member of the President’s and Dean’s Lists, as well as the WVU Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
Prediger continues to shoot for the German National Team.
Now in its 25th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award recognizes graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.
