MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s tennis No. 2 singles player Hailey Barrett was selected to participate in the 2015 NCAA Career in Sports Forum, set for June 4-7, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The NCAA Career in Sports Forum, an annual educational forum hosted by the NCAA, brings together 200 selected student-athletes to learn and explore potential careers in sports, with the primary focus on intercollegiate athletics.
“Hailey’s participation in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum allows her to network with student-athletes and professionals from more than 1,100 NCAA member institutions,” said assistant director of student-athlete development Jennifer Mandeville. “This exposure and learning opportunity allows Hailey to bring back new ideas to our campus that will help WVU athletes and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) grow, especially in the area of career development.”
This unique, four-day forum is designed to assist student-athletes in charting their career paths and provide an opportunity to network and learn from current athletic professionals. The student-athletes will hear from a variety of speakers and panelists during large, general sessions, as well as engage with their peers in small-group discussions.
Nominated student-athletes have to be athletically eligible and have participated in an NCAA-sponsored sport during the current academic year. A native of Lansing, Michigan, Barrett will represent the Mountaineers as she looks to focus on her leadership skills in hopes to prepare herself for life after graduation.
“I am honored to be one of 200 student-athletes selected to attend, and I can’t wait to represent West Virginia University,” Barrett explained. “This is a great opportunity that not many student-athletes receive, so I am excited to be able to share my experiences with my teammates and other student-athletes here at West Virginia.”
Majoring in sports management, Barrett, a rising senior, was named to the All-Big 12 Academic Tennis Team for two straight seasons (2014-15) and was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s and Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll for three consecutive years (2013-15).
“Hailey is a model student-athlete. She brings great drive and determination to both the classroom and the court, and she is a great example to her teammates on how to succeed in both areas,” Mandeville said. “The selection committee looks for athletes with high academic achievement, and her selection is a wonderful recognition of all she has accomplished.”
