MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three members of the national champion West Virginia University rifle team, along with coach Jon Hammond, will compete in the 2015 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Changwon Rifle/Pistol World Cup, April 10-16, in Changwon, Korea.
Sophomore Jean-Pierre Lucas and freshman Elizabeth Gratz will shoot for a Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS), which will count toward a chance to represent the United States on the U.S. National Team.
Senior Ziva Dvorsak and Hammond also will compete in this week’s competition, representing Slovenia and Great Britain, respectively.
The men’s 10m air rifle relay will take place on Friday, April 10, and the women’s round will begin Saturday, April 11.
The men’s 50m rifle prone relays will also begin on Saturday. Finals will end on Sunday, April 12, and the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions relay will follow, with the final on Monday, April 13.
The competition will conclude with the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions competition on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14-15.
This week’s world cup is the first of the season for international shooting. The competition is the first for the Mountaineers since the squad won its third straight, and nation-best 17th, NCAA title on March 14. Dvorsak shot at the NCAA Championships, placing fifth in smallbore and sixth in air rifle.
