Track Posts Four Career-Bests at Stanford

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed its participation in the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, California, earlier tonight.
All of the Mountaineers in action were competing in the women’s 5,000-meter run.
The first wave of West Virginia runners competed in section four of the women’s 5k early this afternoon. Sydney Scott led the way in 12th place in the heat in a personal-best 16:58.63. Savanna Plombon followed directly behind in 13th place in 16:58.64 and Brynn Harshbarger crossed the line in 18th in a personal-best 17:08.12.
Later in the day, Maggie Drazba ran in section three of the women’s 5k. Drazba, a St. Marys, West Virginia, native, placed 12th in a career-best 16:21.43.
Katie Gillespie capped off the night in her first appearance on the track since the 2012-13 season. Gillespie posted a fourth-place result in section two of the women’s 5k in a career-best 16:00.27.
The Mountaineers, who are split this weekend between competitions, will be back in action tomorrow at the Ohio Cherry Blossom Invitational in Athens, Ohio.
