McNeil Leads Track at Mason Spring Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Paced by a career-best mark from freshman Shamoya McNeil, the West Virginia University track and field team completed the Mason Spring Invitational hosted by George Mason University earlier tonight.
McNeil posted a career-best jump of 12.39 meters in the triple jump, earning a second-place finish in the event. McNeil’s previous-best mark in the event was a jump of 12.08 meters.
West Virginia had two student-athletes place in the top six in the high jump. Marsielle McBeam placed third with a jump of 1.65 meters, while Hannah Stone finished in a tie for sixth with a 1.60-meter jump.
Christa D’Egidio participated in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 22nd overall in a career-best outdoor time of 58.13.
In the women’s 5,000-meter run, Allie Diehl crossed the line in 20th place in 18:33.13.
Kelly Williams finished 21st overall in the 800-meter run in 2:14.20, and Brianna Kerekes followed in 22nd place in 2:14.35.
Freshman Sara Finfrock led the Mountaineers in the pole vault. Finfrock finished in a tie for fifth place with a vault of 3.35 meters.
The Mountaineers have a short week, returning to the track for the Virginia Challenge from April 17-18 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
