MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After a month-long hiatus from competition, the West Virginia University track and field team opens its 2015 outdoor season this weekend at the UNF Spring Break Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida.
The meet, hosted by the University of North Florida, will take place on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
“Heading south is a perfect opportunity to get the girls outside training for the first time since last summer,” said coach Sean Cleary. “We will take advantage of a full week of training while we can in beautiful weather.
“The meet will provide great training and a low key introductory meet in the transitional phase.”
This marks the first time the Mountaineers will compete at Hodges Stadium since the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round when West Virginia sent five qualified student-athletes to the NCAA Regional.
West Virginia is looking to build off a 2014 outdoor season that saw three Mountaineers qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and earn All-America status.
