Baseball Stays in Texas for Midweek Games

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The WVU baseball team will begin a five-game week by traveling to Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday, March 24, and then traveling to take on UT Arlington on Wednesday, March 25. Both games begin at 3 p.m. ET.
West Virginia (10-10, 2-4 Big 12) is coming off a week in which it went 2-2, winning a midweek game against Akron and dropping a Big 12 series at Baylor. WVU defeated Akron, 14-9, on Tuesday, before falling 5-4 on Friday and 10-4 on Saturday at Baylor. The Mountaineers avoided the sweep with an 8-2 win on Sunday.
Sophomore right fielder Shaun Wood had his best week of the season, batting 6-for-11 (.545) with three runs and five RBIs. Sophomore catcher Ray Guerrini batted .333 (3-for-9) with three runs, two home runs and eight RBIs.
Senior shortstop Taylor Munden continues to lead the team for the season with a .352 batting average, six doubles, six home runs and 14 RBIs. Freshman Kyle Davis is hitting .349 and holds the team lead in doubles (8) and RBIs (15), while also smacking two home runs. As a team, WVU is batting .277 with 40 doubles, three triples, 22 home runs and 109 RBIs
Freshman right-hander Adam Keller (0-1) will make his second start of the season on Tuesday. Keller has an 8.10 ERA in five appearances with 10 strikeouts in 10.0 innings. He made two appearances last week in relief, striking out five in three shutout innings.
Wednesday’s starter has not been decided.
Stephen F. Austin (7-17, 2-6 Southland) split games at home last weekend against Northwestern State. The Jacks are led by freshman infielder Hunter Wilson, who is batting .353 with two doubles, one triple, one home run and six RBIs. Junior outfielder Matthew Dickey leads the team with six doubles, and junior outfielder Garrett McMullen has a team-leading three home runs.
WVU will be facing freshman left-hander Pat Day (0-0), who will be making his fourth start of the season. Day has a 3.09 ERA with six strikeouts and 14 walks in 11.2 innings.
The Mountaineers will be meeting UT Arlington (12-9, 4-2 Sun Belt), who went 1-1 against UC Santa Barbara and 1-0 against Dartmouth last weekend in California. Junior infielder Jackson Morris has a .362 batting average, four doubles and nine RBIs, while senior infielder Levi Scott is hitting .329 with seven doubles, two home runs and 15 RBIs.
UT Arlington has yet to announce a starting pitcher.
