Baseball Takes on Akron

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team will play its first midweek game of the season when it takes on Akron on Tuesday, March 17, at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington, Pennsylvania. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Tickets will cost $5 at the gate and all seating will be general admission.
All previously purchased tickets, either as season tickets or single-game tickets, for the previously scheduled game at Monongalia County Ballpark will be honored for admission to the games at CONSOL Energy Park. All seating for these previously purchased tickets will be general admission.
The game can be heard on the affiliates of the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG College with Jeff Culhane and Ernie Galusky on the call.
Additionally, fans can listen to the broadcast via the WVU Gameday App on their mobile device, as well as the TuneIn Radio App. WVUsports.com also will carry free live audio via the LeanStream Player at WVUsports.com/audio.
Coach Randy Mazey will send freshman right-hander BJ Myers to the mound for the Mountaineers. Myers started the first four Friday’s of the season and posted a 0-1 record with a 5.30 ERA. He has struck out 13 in 18.2 innings pitched.
West Virginia (8-8, 1-2 Big 12) went 1-2 last weekend at No. 16 Texas to open Big 12 Conference play. WVU and Texas split the first two games of the series, both in 10 innings. Texas won 4-3 on Friday night, while West Virginia won 7-6 on Saturday night. Texas took the rubber match, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon.
Senior shortstop Taylor Munden continued to lead the Mountaineers at the plate, as he was one of four players to bat above .333 for the weekend. Munden finished 5-for-12 (.417) with three runs and one RBI. Freshman outfielder Kyle Davis and senior outfielder Brad Johnson had two RBIs apiece.
Munden leads the team at the plate for the season, batting .366 with five doubles, five home runs, 12 RBIs and six stolen bases. Davis has a .359 average with eight doubles, one homer and 10 RBIs.
Akron (8-7, 0-0 MAC) is hitting .259 as a team with 14 doubles, eight home runs and 16 steals. Junior infielder Kris Simonton is batting .361 with one double and eight RBIs, and junior outfielder Daulton Mosbarger is hitting .321 with three doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs.
West Virginia leads Akron, 20-12, in a series that began in 1982. Most recently, the Mountaineers took three-of-four games from the Zips in 2012.
