Gymnasts Maintain National Rankings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three from the West Virginia University gymnastics team are ranked in today’s GymInfo Poll.
Senior Dayah Haley ranks No. 30 (9.89 RQS) on floor, and junior Melissa Idell follows at No. 34 (9.885 RQS), a nine-spot jump. Combined, the duo has earned seven floor wins and six 9.9+ scores, including career bests of 9.95 for Haley and 9.925 for Idell, a mark she matched in a first-place finish on March 14.
Sophomore Alexa Goldberg ranks No. 42 (9.87 RQS) on the uneven bars for the second straight week. The Ivyland, Pennsylvania, native picked up her seventh bars win of the season with a 9.9 score on March 14.
As a team, WVU (13-8-1, 0-0-1) ranks No. 21 on floor with a 49.125 regional qualifying score (RQS). The Mountaineers tallied a season-best 49.275 showing in their 196.075, first-place finish over Penn (193.175) and Cornell (191.3) on March 14.
Oklahoma again ranks No. 1 (197.86 RQS), a spot the Sooners have held throughout the season. Florida is No. 2 (197.75 RQS), and LSU ranks No. 3 (197.63 RQS). Utah (197.605 RQS) and Alabama (197.425 RQS) are No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
The Mountaineers are up one spot to No. 3 (195.345 RQS) in the Southeast region, behind UF and No. 9-ranked Georgia. The squad also ranks No. 3 on floor, No. 6 on vault (48.995 RQS) and beam (48.7 RQS), and No. 8 on bars (48.635 RQS).
Haley ranks a team-high No. 4 on floor, and Idell trails at No. 6. Goldberg ranks No. 9 on bars, and freshman Zaakira Muhammad checks in at No. 19 (9.8 RQS).
Junior Jaida Lawrence ranks a team-best No. 16 (9.855 RQS) on vault. Muhammad and sophomore Nicolette Swoboda rank No. 19 (9.835 RQS) and No. 25 (9.815 RQS), respectively.
Senior Beth Deal ranks No. 13 (9.81 RQS) on beam, and freshman Jordan Gillette ranks No. 24 (9.76 RQS).
The Mountaineers enter the 2015 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship ranked No. 3 in the conference; OU is No. 1, and Iowa State is No. 2 (195.39 RQS). WVU also ranks No. 2 on floor and vault, and No. 3 on bars and beam.
Haley also owns the team’s top conference ranking and sits at No. 5 on floor, with Idell just behind her at No. 6.
Goldberg ranks No. 6 on bars, and Lawrence ranks No. 6 on vault. Muhammad follows both at No. 10. Additionally, Deal ranks No. 9 on beam.
The Mountaineers travel to Norman, Oklahoma, for the 2015 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship, set for Saturday, March 21, at 6 p.m. EDT, at OU’s Lloyd Noble Center.
