West Virginia University football players and coaches have a new team room to call their own.
The new facility is adorned with colorful graphics depicting the greatest moments in Mountaineer football history as well as the current team, players and coaches. There are three televisions located in the hallway leading to the team room that will display continuous highlights of Mountaineer football games, great moments, teams and great players.
“I’m pretty excited about the new room,” said West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen earlier this week. “Our guys will be excited about having that facility. It’s one of the best I’ve seen anywhere and it will help us with recruiting.”
The structure has 162 theater-style chairs to comfortably seat an entire football team, as well as support staff and personnel. In addition to having a space large enough to accommodate the entire football team, the new facility will also be utilized for Holgorsen’s weekly news conferences during the season.
Holgorsen said the first event in the new team room is taking place on Sunday, March 16, when the Mountaineers host their junior day.
This newest addition to Mountaineer football was made possible by a $1.25 million gift from South Charleston resident Wayne Richards and his wife Kathy.
The Richards’ gift was announced prior to West Virginia’s game last year against Oklahoma and was made in conjunction with “A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University.”
The $1 billion comprehensive campaign being conducted by the WVU Foundation on behalf of the University runs through December 2017.
