MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women’s basketball coach Mike Carey announced the addition of Morgantown High School star Olivia Seggie for the 2015-16 season as an invited walk-on.
“We are very proud to have Olivia join our program,” said Carey. “She comes from a tradition of winning championships and that will help us here at West Virginia. It’s always great to have someone from Morgantown wear the Mountaineer uniform. We look forward to having Olivia here next season.”
Seggie, a two-year starter for the Mohigans, has averaged nine points, five assists and two steals during her career.
She garnered multiple honors last season, which culminated with the 2014 West Virginia Class AAA State Championship. In that game, Seggie poured in 14 points en route to a 46-39 win to claim the school’s first title since 2007. Seggie, who played every minute of the state tournament, was named the MVP of the championship game. She also was tabbed to the Class AAA All-Tournament Team.
Seggie boasted West Virginia Class AAA All-State First Team honors and was given Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Honorable Mention. Conference and state honors have not been released for the 2014-15 season.
Morgantown High boasts a 23-1 record this season, including winning the 2015 Big Atlantic Classic Championship and the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 5A title.
The Mohigans were ranked No. 26 in the USA Today Top-100 Girls Basketball rankings. The team has been atop the Associated Press and Coaches poll for all but one week of the season. Morgantown plays in the state quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Seggie participated in AAU basketball with the Morgantown Mavs and the West Virginia Thunder. She is the first Morgantown native to join the Mountaineers since Cynthia Fullard during the 2008-09 season.
