Mountaineers Tangle with TCU on Tuesday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s basketball team hits the road for a matchup at TCU on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET at the University Recreation Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Jeff Culhane and Meg Bulger are set to call the action on the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. Fans locally in Morgantown can listen on WRLF-FM 94.3, through affilates throughout the state, online at WVUsports.com/audio and via the TuneIn Radio app.
Tuesday’s contest is televised regionally on Fox Sports Southwest Plus. Fans in Morgantown can watch on Fox College Sports Central (Comcast 172, DirecTV 653 and Dish 411).
West Virginia (16-11, 6-9 Big 12) picked up a thrilling 54-52 comeback victory over Iowa State on Saturday. Despite trailing by 17 in the first half, freshman Teana Muldrow hit the game-winning jumper with five seconds remaining to help the Mountaineers seal the win.
“I told them after practice today, the talking is over again,” said coach Mike Carey. “We’ve got three games left. We need to win all three of them. We know what’s at stake right now.”
Through 27 games, WVU is tops in the league and fourth nationally with 6.8 blocks per game. The Mountaineers are scoring 66.1 points per game and giving up 60.3 to opponents. West Virginia is 12-2 this season when holding opponents below 60 points.
Junior Bria Holmes continues to lead the Mountaineers ranks and second in the Big 12 with 19.1 points per game. Holmes climbed to 20th all-time in scoring on Saturday, boasting 1,213 points in her career.
On Tuesday, senior guard Linda Stepney is slated to make her 121st start, which will move her into a tie with Ashley Powell (’09) for the third-most career starts for a Mountaineer.
WVU and TCU (15-11, 7-8) close out the regular-season series on Tuesday and meet for the ninth time on the hardwood. The Mountaineers have won the eight previous meetings. The last six games in the series have all been decided by 10 points or less.
West Virginia staved off a Horned Frogs comeback with a 76-71 win over TCU on February 4 in Morgantown. Holmes paced WVU with a game-high 30 points.
TCU fell 91-75 at No. 3-ranked Baylor on Saturday. The Horned Frogs have lost three out of their last five. Statistically, TCU leads the Big 12 with a +3.42 turnover margin and is second in the league with 10.8 steals per game.
Zahna Medley, a preseason All-Big 12 selection, leads the way with a team-best 15.1 points and 4.1 assists per game. Chelsea Prince is also in double-figures with 11.0 points per game and a league-leading 3.2 steals per game.
