MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – With just two weeks remaining prior to the 2014 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship, the West Virginia University track and field team travels to Geneva, Ohio, for the SPIRE Division I Indoor Track & Field Invitational from Feb. 13-14.
Competition will begin on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., and continue on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
West Virginia recorded 12 season-best marks last weekend at the Akron Invitational in its most recent competition.
In the pole vault, Tori Bertrand recorded a career-best mark of 3.82 meters in the pole vault to take first place overall in the event. Bertrand had recorded previous-best marks of 3.75 meters on multiple occasions earlier in the season.
Other notable performances included Rachel Faulds placing second in the 3,000-meter run gold division, running a career-best time of 10:10.38, and Maggie Drazba finishing third in the one mile gold division race. It marked Drazba’s first appearance in an individual event this season, as she became the first Mountaineer to run a sub-5 mile this season, finishing in 4:55.69.
West Virginia is in the middle of a stretch of eight straight weekends of competition leading up to the Big 12 Indoor Championships from Feb. 27-28.
Notable schools participating this weekend include Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State.
