Seven to Race at USA Swimming Nationals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Seven West Virginia University swimmers will compete at the 2015 AT&T USA Swimming Winter National Championships in Federal Way, Washington, Dec. 3-5.
Seniors Jaimee Gillmore, Ross Glegg, Jay Hickey, Andrew Marsh and Max Spencer, junior Nate Carr and sophomore James Koval, will represent the Mountaineers at the national event organized by USA Swimming.
“USA Nationals will give us two opportunities,” WVU coach Vic Riggs said. “First, for Andrew and Nate, it will be great practice for them having to swim fast in prelims to earn a second swim in the finals, which they will need to do at the Olympic Trials and hopefully the NCAA Championships. Second, for Jaimee, Max, Jay, James and Ross, along with having to swim fast in prelims, this gives them another opportunity to earn an Olympic Trial qualifying time.”
Prelims each day will begin at noon, ET, while finals will commence at 9 p.m. ET.
The three day competition will be raced in long course meters at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. Olympians Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin, among others, will be competing at the national event.
The seven Mountaineers are scheduled to race a total of 19 times. In the first day of competition, Dec. 4, Carr opens in the 200 individual medley, while Gillmore, Marsh and Glegg race in the 50 freestyle. On Friday, Carr races in the 400 individual medley, Marsh, Glegg and Carr compete in the 200 freestyle, Spencer races in the 100 breaststroke before the day concludes with Marsh and Carr in the 100 backstroke. On Dec. 5, the final day of competition, Hickey joins Carr in the 200 backstroke, Marsh and Glegg race in the 100 freestyle and Spencer and Carr compete in the 200 breaststroke before Koval races in the 1,500 freestyle.
Carr will compete in six events, followed by Marsh in five and Glegg in three. Spencer will race twice, while Gillmore, Hickey and Koval each will race in one event.
