MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team remains at No. 1 in this week’s College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll.
Today’s rankings are based on the three highest qualifier scores shot at different locations.
Murray State remains at No. 2, while Kentucky and TCU are tied at No. 3. Alaska-Fairbanks drops one spot and checks in at No. 5.
Air Force remains at No. 6 for the second straight week, while Ohio State drops two spots from last week’s poll to No. 7. Nebraska, Memphis and Army complete the top 10.
Most recently, WVU competed at the 2015 USA Shooting Winter Air Gun Championship/Air Gun Olympic Trials from Dec. 4-6, at the Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The annual tournament served as one of two trials for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Air Rifle Team.
Over the course of three days, senior Garrett Spurgeon and freshman Ginny Thrasher placed first and sixth overall in their respective competitions to advance to the second part of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Air Rifle Team trials, set for June 2016.
The Mountaineers resume competition with a match against nonconference opponent No. 5 Alaska-Fairbanks on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the WVU Rifle Range.
