January 18, 2015 10:40 AM | General
With the NFL Playoffs in full swing and the conference championship games set, multiple former West Virginia football greats are still in action.
Representing the Mountaineers in the conference championships this weekend are Pat McAfee (Colts), Bruce Irvin (Seahawks) and Don Barclay (Packers).
Here is a breakdown of their accomplishments this season and postseason:
Bruce Irvin
Irvin is in his third season with the Seattle Seahawks after being selected with the No. 15 overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. Irvin recorded 37 total tackles this season, including a forced fumble. The Atlanta, Georgia, native also snagged two interceptions, returning each for a touchdown. Against the Carolina Panthers in the NFL Divisional Round last weekend, Irvin recorded a sack to help the Seahawks reach the NFC Conference Championship game scheduled for Sunday, at 3:05 p.m., ET, on Fox. Irvin and the Seahawks are looking for their second straight NFC Championship and a return trip to the Super Bowl.
Pat McAfee
McAfee is in his sixth season with the Indianapolis Colts. He was originally selected with the No. 222 overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. This season, McAfee ranked second in the NFL in net punting and pinned 27 punts inside the 20-yard line, tying his own franchise record. The Plum, Pennsylvania, native had four punts against the Denver Broncos in the NFL Division Round last week for a net average of 43.8. McAfee and Colts will face the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, at 6:40 p.m., ET, on CBS. This season, McAfee was named to the NFL Pro Bowl for the first time in his career.
Don Barclay
Not to be forgotten representing the Mountaineers in this NFL postseason is former West Virginia offensive lineman Don Barclay. Barclay, a member of the Green Bay Packers, has spent the season on the injured reserve list after suffering a torn ACL in practice in August. Barclay has played in 30 career games, while starting 18. Barclay’s Packers will face Irvin’s Seahawks on Sunday, at 3:05 p.m., ET, on Fox.
