MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball outside hitter Jordan Anderson and opposite Nikki Attea have been named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region team as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
“I am very proud of the growth that both Jordan and Nikki have shown since the 2013 season, as well as the rest of our team,” said Mountaineer coach Jill Kramer. “It’s always very nice to see them rewarded for their efforts. Jordan and Nikki proved to be a force consistently throughout our 2014 season and were big point scorers for us. Their numbers show that they are very deserving of this award."
It marks Anderson’s second AVCA accolade, as she earned Midwest Region Honorable Mention in 2013. The 2014 season is also the first time since 1987 that the Mountaineers have had multiple players earn all-region honors.
A three-time Big 12 Player of the Week, Anderson capped a tremendous season by earning Big 12 All-Conference honors. She led the Mountaineers and the Big 12 in kills and points, averaging 4.63 kills per set and 5.08 points per set and ranked second on the team with 2.29 digs per set. Anderson registered a team-best nine double-doubles and set a new career high with 36 kills in five-set defeat of TCU.
Attea led the team with a .269 attacking percentage and finished second with 2.73 kills per set and 76 total blocks. Her 27 service aces was good for third on the team. Attea, a junior, set a new career-best with 25 kills in a five-set loss to Kansas State and hit for a career-high .538 clip at Robert Morris. She recorded four double-doubles on the season – two of which came against nationally ranked opponents.
Also excelling in the classroom, both Attea and Anderson were previously honored as members of the Academic All-Big 12 Team in November.
