MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams completed the first of three days of competition at the 2014 AT&T Winter National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Today’s prelim session saw WVU’s
Andrew Marsh, the reigning Big 12 Men’s Swimmer of the Week, place 45th overall in the men’s 50-yard freestyle. Marsh recorded a season-best time of 20.39 in the event. His previous season-best time of 20.49 in the event was set at the Mizzou Invite.
“It was a good first session. Andrew continues to race at a high level and improved his 50 time from Mizzou,” said coach Vic Riggs. “Our other swims were right on our preliminary swims from Mizzou, but not fast enough to get a second swim.”
The women’s 50-yard freestyle prelims featured two Mountaineer swimmers.
Jaimee Gillmore touched the wall in 23.33, placing 37th overall.
Courtney Parenti followed close behind in 38th overall with a mark of 23.34.
In the men’s 200-yard individual medley prelims,
Nate Carr placed 48th overall in 1:51.03, while
Chris Brill finished 77th overall, hitting the pad in 1:52.70.
The Mountaineers return to action for day two of competition tomorrow morning. Each day, the prelim sessions will begin at 9 a.m., ET, while the finals will begin at 5 p.m.
