MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to competition, as they travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, for the 2014 AT&T Winter National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center from Dec. 4-6.
Each day, the prelim sessions will begin at 9 a.m., while the finals will begin at 5 p.m.
“Having the opportunity to compete against the best will only help us get more comfortable in these types of situations,” said coach Vic Riggs. “We want our experiences now to help us at Big 12s and NCAAs.”
This marks the third time in the last four seasons the Mountaineers have competed at the Winter National Championships.
West Virginia most recently competed at the Mizzou Invite in Columbia, Missouri, from Nov. 20-22. Some notable performances included a first-place finish by Andrew Marsh in the men’s 100-yard butterfly and a fourth-place result by Jenelle Zee in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke.
“Our approach will be the same as it was at Mizzou,” Riggs said. “Our morning swims will be what I will be paying close attention to. Several student-athletes will have opportunities to get second swims, but if we don’t swim fast in the morning, we will not get those chances.”
