Over the past few weeks, the West Virginia University women’s basketball team has impacted the community with its volunteer efforts.
The Mountaineers hosted an event for local Girls Scout troops after its game with IPFW on Dec. 13.
Several student-athletes assisted with the annual Holiday Angel program last week. That program helps those kids who need essential items such as winter clothing. Additionally, the individual kids are allowed to pick out toys.
Several Mountaineers including Lanay Montgomery, Jessica Morton and Linda Stepney assisted the United Way with sorting gifts and food for those in need during the holiday season.
Over the span of two days, the Mountaineers sorted gifts and helped pack them for distribution to various charities in Monongalia County and surrounding areas. They also helped load non-perishable food items, which will also be distributed.
Earlier this year, WVU senior standout Averee Fields was recognized for her community service efforts as an Allstate Good Works team nominee. Fields has devoted countless hours in service, most notably her work with Stepping Stones, which helps people with special needs.
