MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia is one of a record seven Big 12 teams in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 men’s basketball poll, released earlier today.
Coach Bob Huggins' Mountaineers (10-1) moved up four spots to No. 18 following last Saturday night’s 14-point victory over NC State in Madison Square Garden in New York.
West Virginia also jumped three spots the USA Today coaches’ poll to No. 17 this week. It’s the fifth straight week West Virginia has been ranked in both polls this season.
The Big 12 teams listed in this week’s AP poll include: Texas (9), Kansas (10), Iowa State (12), West Virginia (18), Oklahoma (20), Baylor (22) and TCU (25). There are six Big 12 teams ranked in this week’s USA Today coaches’ poll: Texas (9), Kansas (10), Iowa State (12), West Virginia (17), Oklahoma (20) and Baylor (22).
West Virginia faces 9-2 Wofford tonight at the WVU Coliseum in a game that will be televised on West Virginia Media stations throughout the state.

- Big 12 men’s basketball has the nation’s best record, having posted a 90-15 mark to start the year for an .857 winning percentage.
- Big 12 men’s basketball has the fewest losses of any conference in the nation. The combined record of the teams that have defeated league squads is 137-31 (.815).
- The Big 12 is rated as the No. 1 conference in the RPI. Six teams are ranked in the top 32, with eight among the top 70.
- Of the 15 losses suffered by the Big 12, only one was to a team with a current losing record. Seven of the opponents have one loss or less.
- The Big 12 extended its winning streak to 28 games before dropping its first contest in two weeks on Saturday (Dec. 20). The Conference has now won 28 of its last 30.

- Big 12 teams are 60-2 at home this season and the league was the last conference in the nation to lose a home contest (Dec. 4).
- Showcasing the depth of the Conference, teams predicted to finish 6th through 10th in the Big 12 preseason poll are a combined 48-5 (.906). The teams that were picked 8th - 10th are 29-3 (.906).
- Big 12 men’s basketball has a .500 or better record against every conference it has faced this season (27 total).
- With West Virginia earning a top 25 ranking on Nov. 24, eight of the 10 teams in the Big 12 have been ranked in the top 25 at some point this calendar year (2014).
- Nine of the 10 teams in the Big 12 have been ranked or received votes in the top 25 polls this season.
