MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women’s basketball junior guard Bria Holmes was named to this week’s NCAA ‘Starting Five’.
Holmes continues to fill up the West Virginia stat sheet each night, averaging 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 4.5 steals per game for the week as the Mountaineers scored wins against Farleigh Dickinson (80-52) and Coppin State (83-43) to improve to 6-1 on the young season.
Playing in front of many of her family members and friends, Holmes posted 25 points, collected four steals and handed out three assists in the win against Farleigh Dickinson. Holmes, a New Haven, Connecticut native, went 11 of 20 from the field with three 3-pointers. She returned three nights later with 20 points and seven rebounds in the win against Coppin State. Her 24.1 points per game leads the Big 12 and is sixth nationally.
Each week, the NCAA recognizes five outstanding women’s basketball players across the country for their individual performance. In addition to Holmes, Tiaria Griffin (Georgia), Morgan Tuck (Connecticut), A’ja Wilson (South Carolina) and Michelle Young (Bradley) were selected.
