Men’s Soccer Hosts Buffalo on Senior Day

With a win, West Virginia will keep hopes alive of hosting the Mid-American Conference Championship from Nov. 14-16.
Admission to the match will be free courtesy of United Bank, while the match also serves as Senior Night. Seniors Andy Bevin, Paul Ehrenworth and Lee Johnston will be recognized prior to kickoff.
“This is a big game when it comes down to deciding the field for the MAC Championship,” coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “We have been playing well as of late and would love to send the seniors out of Dick Dlesk with a victory.”
The Mountaineers (9-6-1, 1-1-1 MAC) have won three-straight matches, most recently winning 1-0 at Penn last Tuesday evening. Sophomore Mike Desiderio scored the game-winning goal in the eighth minute on an assist from Bevin.
Bevin is ranked No. 1 on the team in goals (9), assists (8) and points (26). Junior Jamie Merriam ranks second in goals (7) and points (17), while freshmen Joey Piatczyc and Louis Thomas have five assists apiece.
Johnston picked up his third shutout of the season against Penn, lowering his goals-against average to 1.38 with 26 saves.
Buffalo (5-8-2, 1-0-2 MAC) is unbeaten in its last three games and won 2-1 over Northern Illinois last Saturday.
Sophomore Russell Cicerone has scored 10 goals and has three assists for a team-leading 23 points. Junior Marcus Hanson and sophomore Nicolai Berry each have a team-leading four assists.
