MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After a three-week break from competition, the No. 23-ranked West Virginia University cross country team travels to Louisville, Kentucky, for the 2014 Greater Louisville Classic at EP Tom Sawyer State Park on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10:15 a.m.
“Training has gone fairly well for the past few weeks,” said coach Sean Cleary. “We certainly have a ways to go, but Louisville will begin to show us where we are and how we might get to where we want to be.”
The event will feature 120 schools from Canada and the United States, including three nationally ranked teams in Wisconsin (No. 16), West Virginia (No. 23) and Virginia Tech (No. 28).
“We will see some new faces on the line for us on Saturday. Making their WVU debuts will be freshmen Maggie Drazba and Millie Paladino,” Cleary said. “Also making their season debuts will be Jillian Forsey, Kelly Williams and Paige Szabat. These three were all on last year’s NCAA Championship team and look to be regaining their fitness.”
The Mountaineers opened the season with a first-place finish at the Lehigh Invitational on Aug. 29, following that up with a fifth-place result at the PSU Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 13.
“We should be a little stronger this weekend. This is pretty much our lineup for the fall,” Cleary said. “We look forward to seeing how they run in a much larger field.”
