Blue Defeats Gold in Basketball Scrimmage

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Devin Williams had 13 points and freshman Daxter Miles Jr. had 10 points to lead the Blue team to a 45-29 win over the Gold squad in a 30-minute officiated scrimmage at the Gold-Blue Debut Friday evening at the WVU Coliseum in front of an estimated 5,000 fans.
Williams was 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and also grabbed five rebounds with two steals. Miles was 2-of-6 shooting from 3-point range on his way to a 10-point effort. Rounding out the Blue team’s statistics: Jevon Carter (eight points, 2-of-4 from 3-point range), Tyrone Hughes (six points, 2-of-3 from 3-point range), Brandon Watkins (four points, three rebounds) and BillyDee Williams (four points, four rebounds). Juwan Staten dished out five assists for the Blue team.
Tarik Phillip paced the Gold squad with seven points. Rounding out the Gold statistics: Jonathan Holton (six points, four rebounds), Gary Browne (six points), Elijah Macon (six points, four rebounds) and Jaysean Paige (four points and three rebounds). Nathan Adrian had three rebounds for the Gold squad.
“This was a great opportunity for our fans to come out, interact with our guys and watch quite a few of them in action for the first time,” said head coach Bob Huggins. “I know our guys were excited to play and have some fun in the Coliseum in front of our great fans.”
The Mountaineers will play their lone exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 9 against Shepherd. The game will tip at 4 p.m. at the Coliseum.
