WVU Undefeated on Day Two at GSU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Winning five singles matches and two doubles matches, the West Virginia University women’s tennis team finished the second day of the Georgia State Invitational a perfect 7-0 at Piedmont Park in Atlanta on Saturday.
Freshman Lyn Yuen Choo continued her winning streak and now stands at a team-best 7-1 in singles play. Choo defeated GSU’s Niri Rasolomalala in three sets with score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Habiba Shaker bested UNC Greensboro’s Alisha Burton in two straight sets (6-0, 6-0), and captured her second win in the Old Gold and Blue.
Sophomore Kaja Mrgole bounced back in three sets, and defeated GSU’s Linn Timmermann with scores of 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. Freshman Yvon Martinez bested UNCG’s Blaine Boaz (3-6, 6-2, 6-4).
In doubles action, senior Ikttesh Chahal and Choo defeated UNCG’s Blaine Boez and Masey DeMoss in a tie break (8-7 (5)). Mrgole and Martinez bested UNCG’s Amy Ellis and Stephanie Falcon with a score of 8-3.
“We did a good job today of battling within the matches and being overall mentally consistent,” coach Miha Lisac said. “We are looking forward to taking these results into tomorrow’s play.”
The Georgia State Invitational resumes tomorrow with matches starting at 9 a.m.
