Mountaineers to Tangle with TCU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 20/24 West Virginia women’s basketball team travels to Fort Worth, Texas, for an 8 p.m. ET tip with TCU on Saturday at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The Mountaineers are currently 18-3 overall and hold a 7-2 mark in Big 12 play. WVU is coming off a 67-56 win over No. 23/21 Iowa State, Wednesday, at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers currently have four players averaging scoring numbers in double figures and hold a 7-1 record in road play.
Sophomore guard Bria Holmes leads all players with 14 points per game and is coming off a team-leading 16-point performance against the Cyclones. Senior center Asya Bussie had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in the last game, averaging 13.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season. Senior guards Christal Caldwell and Taylor Palmer round out the top four scorers with 12 and 10.9 points per game, respectively. WVU averages 76.2 points per game, while limiting opponents to 59.3 points per game.
The Horned Frogs are currently 12-8 and 3-5 in Big 12 play, dropping their last outing with Oklahoma State, 49-48. Zahna Medley leads TCU in scoring with 15.1 points per game, the sixth-highest scoring average of all league players. Medley leads TCU in five statistical categories: minutes played (640), field goals made (101), 3-pointers made (41), free throws made (58) and assists (81).
Natalie Ventress is the only other TCU player in double figures, scoring 10.9 points per game. Ventress holds the second-most threes for the Horned Frogs with 30 this season, and 13 in Big 12 play. Latricia Lovings is TCU’s rebounding leader with 7.9 boards per game and leads the Big 12 Conference in blocked shots with 75, averaging 3.8 blocks per game.
The Horned Frogs lead the Big 12 Conference in blocked shots and steals with 6.2 and 9.9 per game, respectively. Chelsea Prince has collected the most steals with 32, while Medley and Lovings have each added 30 steals.
As a team, TCU averages 64.4 points per game, while limiting opponents to only 57 points per game. Within the conference, TCU has defeated Texas Tech, Kansas and Texas, while dropping league games to Iowa State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, twice, and Oklahoma. The Horned Frogs are 10-2 at home in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, with a 52-50 win over Kansas and a 54-48 win over Texas.
WVU and TCU meet for the fifth time in program history Saturday, and the first time this season. WVU leads 4-0 in the all-time series, dating back to Dec. 9, 1989. Last season, WVU defeated TCU 58-50 in Morgantown on Jan. 15, and took a 66-56 win on Feb. 23 in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
