Gov. Tomblin Signs TIF Bill in Morgantown

West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin signed Senate Bill 1001, which will create a “University Town Centre Economic Opportunity District” enabling Monongalia County to construct a new $16.2 million baseball facility to house Mountaineer baseball and a potential minor league baseball franchise.
The TIF bill opens up approximately 1,450 acres of land for development along I-79 and will also include a new exit between exits 152 near Westover and 155 near Star City. The project is expected to create 1,100 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent jobs when completed.
According to developers, the entire project is valued at nearly $200 million with $104 million committed in private investment so far.
Gov. Tomblin signed the bill into law following the second inning of last night’s WVU-Pitt baseball game at Hawley Field. The Mountaineers were unable to come back from a 6-0 fourth-inning deficit, falling 7-6 to the Panthers.
