MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University novice rowing team takes to the water against Duquesne on Friday, Nov. 8, in Morgantown.
“We are excited to have Duquesne in this week for a novice scrimmage,” says novice coach Mandy Merritt. “It's nice to have good competition regionally so close so that we can have races like this to analyze and work on specific things within our crews in the fall. It will also be good for our crews to line up next to a competitor to simulate what spring racing will be like.”
The novice squad saw its first action last weekend at the Head of the Occoquan in Fairfax, Va. The Mountaineers claimed two medals, finishing in second and third place in the women’s novice 4+. The crew with coxswain Emily Moran earned the silver with a time of 21:19.5, while the boat featuring coxswain Megan Haefele took bronze with a 21:54.95.
Action is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday on the Monongahela River. The varsity squad finishes its fall season on Nov. 17 at the Rivanna Romp in Earlysville, Va.
