MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team will conclude a five-game homestand when it hosts Stony Brook on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

West Virginia (4-5-1, 1-1 MAC) is coming off a 4-0 victory over Northern Illinois last Saturday. Junior Andy Bevin scored one goal on a game-leading four shots. Bevin added two assists to complete a four-point evening.

Bevin continues to lead WVU and the Mid-American Conference with 16 points (5 goals, 6 assists). Nationally, he ranks No. 5 in assists, No. 20 in points and No. 40 in goals.

Sophomores Ryan Cain and Jamie Merriam, and freshman Christian Diaz added goals against Northern Illinois, while Merriam also had one assist. Sophomore Majed Osman ranks second on the team with five assists, followed by Merriam with four.

Junior goalkeeper Lee Johnston recorded his second shutout of the season. He made three saves in the game to bring his season total to 26 in eight games.

This will be the first meeting between WVU and Stony Brook. The teams were supposed to play last year, but the match was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy.

Stony Brook (5-4-0) is riding a two-game winning streak with 1-0 wins over Northeastern and Albany. The Seawolves also have wins against Sacred Heart, Rhode Island and Fordham.

Midfielder Will Casey leads Stony Brook with four goals and eight points. Midfielder Alejandro Fritz is second on the team in goals (2) and points (5). Defender Mario Mesen has a team-leading three assists.

Carlos Villa has started the last two games in net for Stony Brook, recording two shut-out victories with five saves.

Coach Ryan Anatol is in his third season at Stony Brook. Anatol is familiar with the Mountaineers as he previously served six seasons as an assistant coach at USF.
