MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After a month away from the top spot, the West Virginia University rifle team reclaimed the nation’s No. 1 ranking in this week’s College Rifle Coaches Association Poll.
Today’s rankings are based on the team’s last score shot. The Mountaineers (3-0, 2-0 GARC) shot a season-high 4695 in their win over Army (4669) at the WVU Rifle Range on Oct. 26.
WVU sat at No. 5 last week. The Mountaineers were last ranked No. 1 in this year’s preseason poll.
Alaska-Fairbanks, the top-ranked team the two previous weeks, fell to No. 2. Kentucky also fell one spot to No. 3. Army jumped eight spots to No. 4, and Murray State climbed five spots to No. 5.
Air Force ranks No. 6, Jacksonville State is No. 7 and TCU is No. 8. Memphis and Ohio State rank No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
The Mountaineers close out their fall home schedule this weekend with a pair of matches at the WVU Rifle Range. WVU welcomes No. 12 Mississippi on Nov. 2, and No. 16 Akron on Nov. 3. Both matches will begin at 8 a.m.
