Mountaineers Head to Pitt

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia swimming and diving teams jump back into dual meet action, traveling to Pitt on Saturday, Jan 11, at Trees Pool. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
WVU recently returned from a training trip to the Florida Keys, where they participated in the Orange Bowl Classic. The men took second place, while the women finished in third place.
The men’s team currently has 12 Top 10 times in the Big 12 rankings. Freshman Chase Williams is ranked No. 9 in the 200 fly (1:52.23), 200 IM (1:52.73) and 400 IM (4:01.90). Sophomore Christopher Brill ranks No. 3 in the 200 breast (2:03.07) and No. 7 in the 100 breast (56.84).
Ten different women’s swimmers combine for 20 Top 10 times in the Big 12 rankings. Senior Rachael Burnett leads the way with a No. 1 ranking in the 1650 free (16:09.92), No. 1 in the 500 free (4:41.37), No. 4 in the 200 free (1:47.35) and No. 10 in the 400 IM (4:27.45). Senior Mandie Nugent ranks No. 1 in the 200 fly (1:58.10), while she is No. 4 in the 100 fly (54.24).
The men will be looking to defeat the Panthers for the third time in four years, while the women are looking to repeat last year’s 161.5-138.5 victory in the WVU Natatorium.
Both the men and women of Pitt enter the meet with a 2-2 dual meet record. The full squads were in action last at the Pitt Invitational with both teams earning first-place team finishes.
