Etuk, Schoenle Invited to MLS Combine

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia men’s soccer players Uwem Etuk and Eric Schoenle are among a group of 54 NCAA Division I college seniors invited to participated in the 2013 adidas MLS Player Combine.
The duo will take the field in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from Jan. 11-15, and are eligible for selection in the 2013 SuperDraft presented by adidas set on Jan. 17, in Indianapolis, Ind., at noon.
Schoenle, a two-year All-American, played in 17 games last season, leading the Mountaineers with six goals, including two game-winners. He completed his four-year career with 75 games played, 14 goals, five assists, 33 points and seven game-winning goals.
“I’m honored to be selected as a part of the combine,” Schoenle says. “To be selected among the top seniors in the country is a huge honor for me. The past four years at WVU have really helped me prepare for my future. Without the support of the coaches and staff at WVU, I don’t know if I would have had this opportunity, and for that I am and grateful to them.”
Etuk was most recently named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team after starting all 17 contests in 2012, and recording two goals with a team-leading six assists. Etuk played in 75 career games with eight goals, 18 assists and 34 points, including three game-winning goals.
“It’s an honor to be selected to participate in the combine,” Etuk says. “WVU provided me with the opportunity to play at a high level all over the country. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with the coaches at WVU, and the support staff that doesn’t always get the recognition they deserve. I’m proud to be a Mountaineer and I hope to represent well in Florida.”
