MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will continue its preseason with the annual WVU Swimming & Diving Celebration starting with the Gold-Blue meet on Friday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m., in the WVU Natatorium.
"I am really looking forward to this weekend,” coach Vic Riggs says. “It is always fun to have the parents and alumni come and spend a night honoring our team’s and individual’s accomplishments at our Mountaineer Swimming and Diving Celebration."
The event will continue with a 6 p.m. banquet at Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa on Friday evening featuring special guest speaker Josh Schneider. Schneider is a two-time medalist at the Short Course Worlds and holds the American record in the short course 50 freestyle. Schneider attended Cincinnati where he was an NCAA champion in the 50 free in 2010.
"We have a fun format scheduled for the team in the Gold-Blue meet, and to have Josh speak at the banquet is a real honor,” Riggs says.
Prior to Saturday’s football game, there will be a tailgate for alumni at the WVU Varsity Club tent.
The team will open the regular season on Oct. 14 with the start of the West Virginia State Games in the WVU Natatorium. Action gets underway at 4 p.m.
