MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University is asking all students, faculty, staff, alumni and other fans to show support for their school by wearing gold and blue on Sept. 2.

WVU is one of many universities around the country taking part in national College Colors Day, an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that make the college experience memorable.

“I’d like for all West Virginia fans to step up and participate in national College Colors Day,” said WVU head football coach Dana Holgorsen. “Let’s show the country how strong Mountaineer Nation is by wearing our gold and blue. Our logo is recognizable all over the world and this is a great way to show your Mountaineer spirit.”

In addition, WVU is asking all students, faculty, staff, alumni and other fans to wear gold each Friday as part of the second year of Mountaineer Fridays. Check out a video for Mountaineer Fridays at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jfaxwavNE0.

“I've had the opportunity to go all over the country as the Mountaineer, and I have never seen as much pride for a University as I have seen here in West Virginia,” said Mountaineer mascot Brock Burwell. “It's important that every fan, student, faculty and alumni wear their favorite WVU shirt, hat or tie every Friday to show their Mountaineer spirit.

“I just can't wait to see all of Morgantown and West Virginia in gold and blue every Friday before game days.”

WVU has teamed up with Nike to produce an official 2011 WVU Fan Shirt. The shirt, which reads “True Gold and Blue” and “Be a Mountaineer!” on the front and features a Flying WV logo on the back, is on sale now. You can buy the shirt in person or online from the WVU Bookstore and other Nike retailers.

Fans are encouraged to wear the official shirt to support all WVU sports teams.

College Colors Day coincides with WVU’s annual Fan Fest pep rally, which is set to kick off at 5 p.m. on Sept. 2 on the Mountainlair Plaza. A rain location has been set for the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

Since its inception in 2005, College Colors Day has grown rapidly across the country. Thousands of organizations and millions of individuals participate annually by donning their team colors and sharing in the college spirit with friends and colleagues.
