Men's Soccer: WVU Ranked No. 17

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team received its third preseason ranking this season, coming in at No. 17 on the Soccer America preseason Top 25.
This is the team’s highest ranking this season, as the Mountaineers were tabbed No. 22 by College Soccer News and came in at No. 24 on Goal.com.
Seven WVU opponents are ranked in the Soccer America poll: Connecticut (No. 5), Maryland (No. 8), Notre Dame (No. 9), UC Santa Barbara (No. 10), Virginia (No. 11) and Old Dominion (No. 25).
The Mountaineers, who reported for preseason camp on Aug. 9, return 10 regular starters and 13 letterwinners from last season’s squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. West Virginia also returns 33 of its 34 goals from 2010 and 107 of its 116 points.
West Virginia will open with the ACC/BIG EAST Challenge in Germantown, Md., against No. 11 Virginia, on Friday, Aug., 26 at 5 p.m., at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
