Women's Basketball Update
August 15, 2011 06:44 PM | General
Sunday morning the WVU women’s basketball team departed on a 240-mile bus ride from Como to Florence. Along the way, the Mountaineers stopped for a two-hour practice in a town called Fiera Di Forli. The travel party didn’t arrive into the Florence area until 9 p.m., so immediately after checking into the hotel, everyone ventured out in search of dinner.
Monday morning the group went on a 9 a.m. walking tour of the city of Florence. Tour guide Paolo gave the historical background and information on the architecture, statues and many areas of the city. After the tour, everyone had some free time to roam the city and experience some of the shopping in the streets of Florence. In Italian, Florence is known as Firenzi and is popular for its leather used in purses and belts.
After some lunch in the early afternoon, the team departed Florence for a 5 p.m. practice in Rome at the Stella Azzurra Center, which is the same facility it will play its final two games of the European tour.
On Tuesday WVU will experience the sites of Rome before tipping off for its second game of the trip at 6 p.m. (12 ET). The final game is set for Wednesday before flying out of Rome and returning home Thursday evening.
