Women's Soccer: Cavender Joins Team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown announced today the addition of midfielder Whitney Cavender for the 2011 season.
A four-year letterwinner for University High for coach Ray Petrisin, Cavender was named the 2010 Gatorade West Virginia Girls Soccer Player of the Year. She was a two-time all-state and three-time all-North Central Athletic Conference selection, and was named the conference’s player of the year as a senior in 2009.
Cavender guided her team to a 2009 state championship and 2008 state runner-up finish. She was named the 2009 state AAA Girls Forward of the Year and a NSCAA/adidas High School All-American. A National Honor Society member, Cavender ran track her senior year at UHS.
She played club soccer for eight years for West Virginia United for several coaches, including former Mountaineers Christen Seaman, Emma Rodriguez and Lisa Zanti. She also played four years for Penns Forest FC. She was a member of the 2009 WVSA U-18 state champion team and was a West Virginia ODP member from 2002-08.
