Graduates Reflect On Soccer Careers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In the midst of an undoubtedly busy commencement weekend, four graduating women’s soccer players from the 2010 team took time to reflect on their Mountaineer careers.
Cassandra Deitrick
5-0, Sr., Midfielder
Newark, Del.
I am graduating with a degree in: psychology
In five years, I hope to be working: as a healthcare attorney
My favorite class was: cognition and memory with Dr. Constance Toffle, the biopsychology of sleep with Dr. Montgomery-Downs, and topics in women's literature: Bad Girls with Dr. Bergner. And all of my honors classes – I had a lot of favorite classes.
My least favorite class was: Organic Chemistry
My favorite spot on campus is: Life Science – 1st Floor
My favorite coach Izzo-Brown phrase is: she has too many good ones to pick only one
My favorite on-field moment was: winning the BIG EAST title for the first time, and the second
My favorite off-field moment was: just hanging out with all the girls. Even though we spent a lot of time together, it never got old
My favorite thing about Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is: its name, its size and the grass was always fantastic
Attending WVU and playing women’s soccer was: a great experience that provided me with a family away from home, a lot of laughs and friendships that will last a lifetime

I am graduating with a degree in: chemistry and a degree in forensic & investigative science
In five years, I hope to be working: to finish up a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, although I haven’t decided where I will be attending
My favorite class was: Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, it was challenging, interactive and I learned a lot
My least favorite class was: Inorganic Chemistry Lecture, it was like learning a new language
My favorite spot on campus is: Milan Puskar Stadium for football games
My favorite coach Izzo-Brown phrase is: “Keep building those pillars” and “No negative Nancy’s”
My favorite on-field moment was: Winning the BIG EAST Championship against USF this past season
My favorite off-field moment was: The team’s foreign tour trip to Prague and Italy my sophomore year
My favorite thing about Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is: Playing soccer in it of course
Attending WVU and playing women’s soccer was: a unique and unforgettable experience that taught me about myself and what I am capable of, provided me with an opportunity to meet new people and make lifelong friends, and gave me an opportunity to travel and see new places.

I am graduating with a degree in: criminology with a minor in psychology
In five years, I hope to: have my master's degree and be working as a special investigator or entering the FBI.
My favorite class was: Sociology 101 with Daniel Brewster
My least favorite class was: History 152
My favorite spot on campus is: The Mountainlair
My favorite coach Izzo-Brown phrase is: “It's like Christmas, it's gameday”
My favorite on-field moment was: winning the BIG EAST Championship this year and scoring my first goal against Tennesse
My favorite off-field moment was: relaxing with the girls at Copper Beech
My favorite thing about Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is: knowing that there was always someone in the stands cheering you on
Attending WVU and playing women's soccer was: An amazing experience and nothing that I would change for the world. I have made lifelong friendships with the girls and they have all become like sisters to me. I appreciate all the doors that have been opened for me due to my experience as a Division I student-athlete. I have learned so much about myself and have truly grown as a person from my experiences here at WVU.

In five years, I hope to be working: with a professional sports team in public relations and marketing
My favorite class was: JRL 318 – Beat Reporting, VISJ 220 – Photojournalism and PR 333 – Web and Media Design
My least favorite class was: anything that had math involved
My favorite spot on campus is: anywhere on the downtown campus in the fall when the leaves are changing
My favorite coach Izzo-Brown phrase is: "Who's gonna be first? Who wants it?" during runs at practice
My favorite on-field moment was: Winning the BIG EAST Championship twice and scoring two overtime game-winning goals this year
My favorite off-field moment was: Going as a team every year to Rich’s Fright Farm around Halloween
My favorite thing about Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is: the atmosphere that the fans created; it always pumped me up
Attending WVU and playing women’s soccer was: one of the best decisions I could have ever made. Not only have I become stronger, faster and a better soccer player, I have met lifelong friends and have had so many opportunities that many college students do not ever have. I will walk away with tons of memories and experiences to look back on and smile about.
