Townsend Runs Personal Best at Texas Relays
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman Chené Townsend posted a lifetime best performance this morning in the 100-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays in Austin.
“Sitting around this meet watching Katelyn (Williams) and Chelsea (Carrier) compete for the last three days obviously left Chené in a great frame of mind,” coach Sean Cleary says. “Breaking 14.00 was Chené’s main goal of the year and she accomplished that. She is a very bright and competitive young lady.”
Townsend finished in 19th place with a time of 13.72, the first time she has finished under the 14.00 mark in her career.
“This has been a very successful trip for this small group of individuals,” Cleary admits. “Now it is time to come home and train for the Championships.”
The rest of the WVU track and field team will continue action tomorrow with a trip to the Bennie Benson Invitational hosted by Robert Morris in Pittsburgh.
