Flowers Named MVP

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior John Flowers was named Most Valuable Player of the WVU men’s basketball team at the squad’s 2010-11 banquet, held Sunday at the Waterfront Place Hotel.
Flowers, a native of Waldorf, Md., averaged 9.2 points per game and was second on the team in rebounding average at 6.2 boards per contest. He finished his Mountaineer career with 157 blocked shots, fourth in school history. Flowers played in 142 career games, third most in school history. He had 18 games in double figures this year, including a career-high 24 points against Providence.
Other award winners were Flowers (Most Improved and Best Defender), Cam Thoroughman (Unsung Hero), Casey Mitchell (Sixth Man), Kevin Jones (Team Man) and Joe Mazzulla (Charge Leader).
The Mountaineers finished the 2010-11 season with 21 victories, advanced to the NCAA Third Round and finished No. 22 in the final Associated Press poll.
