Women's Track: WVU Battles Weather

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team battled inclement weather on its way to completing the Kent Taylor - Joe Hilton Carolina Invitational hosted by North Carolina today in Chapel Hill.
After a delay due to rain, the Mountaineers saw several top performances including first-place showings from Chelsea Carrier, Stephanie Aldea, April Rotilio and Meghan Mock.
Carrier remains undefeated in the 100-meter hurdles this season after taking the top spot with a time of 13.47. Freshman Chené Townsend followed in third in the event, with a time of 14.09.
Aldea led WVU in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10.04.52, while Rotilio posted an excellent showing in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.73.
The Mountaineers then saw Mock captured first in the long jump with a BIG EAST Championship qualifying performance after clearing 6.09 meters.
WVU’s 4x400-meter relay team also captured first this afternoon, as Carrier, Rotilio, Megan Mischler and Jordann Mitchell finished with a combined time of 3:53.01.
In other field events, freshman Katlyn Shelar finished fourth in the pole vault (3.50 meters), while junior Terina Miller finished sixth in the hammer throw (49.69 meters) and second in the shot put (11.80 meters).
West Virginia will continue its outdoor season next weekend with a trip to Ohio State for the Jesse Owens Track Classic on April 23-24.
