MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team is set to host BIG EAST foe Seton Hall on Friday, March 18, in a 3 p.m. match at the Ridgeview Racquet Club.
Seton Hall currently holds a record of 3-9, and is 0-3 in BIG EAST action.
“We’re hoping to get another conference win to give us some momentum heading into spring break,” says coach Tina Samara. “We need to win some of these conference matches coming up if we’re looking to get a better seed in the BIG EAST tournament.”
The Mountaineers’ record improved last weekend to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the BIG EAST, after falling to Cincinnati (1-6) on Friday, then bouncing back on Sunday with wins over Army (4-1) and Providence (7-0).
Junior Veronica Cardenas led the Mountaineers in the No. 3 singles spot, with WVU’s lone singles victory against Cincinnati in a third-set win over the Bearcat’s Caitlin O’Gara.
Cardenas continued to stand out as she captured two more wins over Army’s Annie Hang and Providence’s Melissa Ferry on Sunday.
